Landscape and Seascape Artist

About Michael

Siesta time, San Gimignano
Oil on canvas - 50x40cm

Michael cannot recall a time when he has not drawn
or painted, and during his school years his
enthusiasm and passion for art was the main driving force of his education.

He is predominantly a landscape and seascape artist who paints in a contemporary impressionistic style.  He strives to capture the fleeting mood, atmosphere and light in his compositions  and subject matter
with intense brightness and deep shadows are his distinctive hallmarks.

Recognition of his work came in 1990 when his atmospheric shooting and gaming scenes were
highly commended at The BASC Wildlife exhibition.  The following year some of those paintings were
published as limited edition prints by Sally Mitchell Fine Arts.

His work has been highly commended as well as achieving runner-up status in the waterscape section of The Society for all Artists (SAA) Artist of the Year.

In 2009 he was the winner of the SAA Professional Artist of the Year. He paints in oils and acrylics, both 'plein air' and in his studio, and recent work has been exhibited at 'The Royal Society of Marine Artists,'  'The Royal Institute of Oil Painters' and the 'Royal Society of British Artists.'

Following  the showcasing of his works at those exhibitions he has been short listed for commission work for The Sultanate of Oman.
